My Priorities.

Cost of Living Crisis

The Cost of Living Crisis was one of the biggest failings of the previous Conservative government. As a MP, I am making sure that practical action, not only words, is being utilised to ensure that everyone can afford to look after themselves and their families.

Housing

The Cornish Housing Crisis has been fuelled by the Conservatives for decades. I have been supporting the ‘First Homes not Second Homes’ initiative since it began in order to fix the system that favours the rich over the poor – so that everyone can afford to live in Cornwall.

Health and Social Care

As the son of a doctor and a nurse, it pains me to see the state of the NHS. I am working tirelessly to push towards a new health and social care system that ensures the right care is delivered, at the right time to the right people.

Jobs in the green economy

Economic rejuvenation should be based on maximising sustainable energy resources to create secure, well-paid jobs. The opportunities in Cornwall are immense, and I am determined that Camborne, Redruth and Hayle will be at the centre of what I hope to be a Green Industrial Revolution.

Devolution

We need Cornish solutions to Cornish challenges. To achieve this we need a devolution deal that empowers us to manage our own destiny and unleash the Cornish Celtic Tiger – showcasing the rich potential that Cornwall has to offer.

Education

We owe it to our young people to ensure that all our educational institutions offer excellence for all. I will continue to work with this Labour Government to undo the mess left to us by the previous Conservative government to ensure that everyone can get the opportunities they deserve.

Brexit and Europe.

For economic, social, cultural and security reasons, I will push for the closest possible relationship with our nearest neighbours, friends and allies. I make no apology for stating that I am a staunch pro-European.

Mental Health Care.

This is an issue very close to my heart because, as a parent, I have been through the trauma of the Child and Adult Mental Health Service (CAMHS). The system was crippled by a decade of underfunding. Fixing it is one of my primary concerns as MP.

Environment.

Our job is to care for, protect and nurture our natural environment. The Conservatives have abused and neglected it. As an MP, I will work tirelessly to make sure that our environment is protected, particularly by ending the pumping of raw sewage into our waterways.

Electoral Reform.

It’s up to politicians to galvanise the electorate to come out and vote, which is why at the Labour Party conference in 2021 I voted in favour of electoral reform and I support a fairer, proportional electoral system.

Fox Hunting and Animal Cruelty.

Quite simply, zero tolerance to animal cruelty in a modern progressive Britain. Having lived in rural areas most of my life and I believe there is no space for these practices to continue.
