Meet Perran

My name is Perran Moon. I have been the Member of Parliament for Camborne, Redruth and Hayle since July 2024.
I was born and raised in Redruth. My Dad was a local GP and my Mum was a nurse at Treliske Hospital.
I am particularly focused on ensuring that our local constituency receives the funding and support that it deserves, whilst also promoting economic growth through sectors like critical minerals and renewable energy. I have been particularly pleased with the Government's investment in South Crofty Tin Mine at the centre of my constituency.

POLICIES

Cost of Living Crisis

Unfortunately, our constituency suffers from large levels of poverty and deprivation. As a MP, I am delighted that this Labour Government is taking action including increasing the minimum wage, offering free school breakfast clubs and increasing access to free school meals.

Housing

The Cornish Housing Crisis has been fuelled by second homes and Airbnbs. I have been supporting the ‘First Homes not Second Homes’ initiative since it began in order to fix the system that favours the rich over the poor – so that everyone can afford to live in Cornwall.

Health & Social Care

As the son of a doctor and a nurse, it pains me to see the state of the NHS. I am working tirelessly to push towards a new health and social care system that ensures the right care is delivered, at the right time to the right people.

Jobs in the green economy

Economic rejuvenation should be based on maximising sustainable energy resources to create secure, well-paid jobs. The opportunities in Cornwall are immense, and I am determined that Camborne, Redruth and Hayle will be a key part of unleashing the Cornish Celtic Tiger

Devolution

We need Cornish solutions to Cornish challenges. To achieve this we need a devolution deal that empowers us to manage our own destiny, including the ability to deal with the Cornish housing crisis, investment in culture, language and heritage, and fund our economic growth.

Education

We owe it to our young people to ensure that all our educational institutions offer excellence for all. I will continue to work with this Labour Government to undo the mess left to us by the previous Conservative government to ensure that everyone can get the opportunities they deserve.

Brexit & Europe

For economic, social, cultural and security reasons, I will push for the closest possible relationship with our nearest neighbours, friends and allies. I believe that our economic destiny is intrinsically linked with that of the European Union.

Mental Health Care

This is an issue very close to my heart because, as a parent, I have been through the trauma of the Child and Adult Mental Health Service (CAMHS). The system was crippled by a decade of underfunding. Fixing it is one of my primary concerns as MP.

Environment

Our job is to care for, protect and nurture our natural environment. As an MP, I will work tirelessly to make sure that our environment is protected, particularly by ending the pumping of raw sewage into our waterways.

Electoral Reform

It’s up to politicians to galvanise the electorate to come out and vote. But we currently have an electoral system that disenfranchises a large part of the electorate, this is why I support reform to our current electoral system.

Fox Hunting and Animal Cruelty

Quite simply, zero tolerance to animal cruelty in a modern progressive Britain. Having lived in rural areas most of my life I will campaign tirelessly to ensure that the Labour Party Manifesto commitment closing all fox hunting hunting loopholes is implemented.
